. We believe firmly that your portfolio has to be put together to match your individual needs and to take into account your feelings about risk

We advise on ‘collective’ investments, not individual shares.  Collective investments are where your money is spread across a diverse range of individual shares and managed by a fund manager responsible for buying and selling those shares to optimise returns for the investors.

What counts as a Collective Investment?

The term covers a wide variety of investment options including Unit Trusts, OEICs, Investment Trusts, and Investment Bonds.  We will discuss your goals with you in detail, and select the most appropriate options from the thousands available.

Making the most of tax concessions

Investment Trusts, Unit Trusts, and OEICS can be placed into the tax-free wrapper of an Individual Savings Account (ISA). You have no personal tax liability for any income or profit generated from an ISA. The ISA itself pays no Capital Gains Tax, and for certain types of funds, notably Corporate Bond funds, a tax free income is available from within the ISA.

Single Premium Investment Bonds have a particular use in the context of tax planning, in that under current legislation you can withdraw up to 5% of the original investment into the bond per annum for up to 20 years, deferring any personal tax liability at the time of taking the income. You can choose to miss a year and roll it forward.  As an example, if you are a higher rate taxpayer, and take no income for ten years from your Single Premium Investment Bond, you can then take a tax-deferred income of 10% of your original investment for the next ten years. This ability to defer tax can be extremely valuable in tax planning, particularly if you are a higher rate taxpayer at present but expect to be a basic rate taxpayer in 20 years’ time when you retire.

Building a portfolio that’s right for you

Constructing a suitable investment portfolio is an involved process. We believe firmly that your portfolio has to be put together to match your individual needs and to take into account your feelings about risk.  We take the time to find out about you and your plans, so that you can be sure that whatever we recommend will be a balanced solution to your investment needs.
